A Front of House Restaurant Manager (FOH Manager) is responsible for overseeing the customer-facing aspects of a restaurant's operations. They ensure that guests receive exceptional service and that the front-of-house team, including servers, hosts, and bartenders, works efficiently to create a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. The role is a combination of customer service, team management, and operational oversight. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Customer Service Management:

    • Greet and interact with guests to ensure a positive experience from arrival to departure.

    • Handle customer complaints, concerns, or special requests promptly and professionally.

    • Ensure that all guest interactions are handled courteously, with a focus on delivering exceptional service.

    • Monitor customer satisfaction and address any service issues that arise during the meal.

  2. Team Leadership & Staff Management:

    • Supervise and manage front-of-house staff, including servers, bartenders, and hosts/hostesses.

    • Schedule shifts, monitor employee performance, and provide feedback for improvement.

    • Lead by example, demonstrating exceptional service standards, and ensuring the team follows the same practices.

    • Train and mentor new employees, ensuring they understand restaurant policies, procedures, and service standards.

  3. Operational Oversight:

    • Oversee the flow of guests in the dining room, managing reservations, seating arrangements, and waitlists to ensure an efficient experience.

    • Ensure the restaurant environment is clean, organized, and welcoming at all times.

    • Collaborate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure that food and drinks are delivered to customers in a timely and accurate manner.

    • Manage inventory for front-of-house supplies, such as napkins, silverware, glassware, and condiments, and place orders as needed.

  4. Financial Management:

    • Handle cash and credit card transactions, ensuring proper cash handling and POS system operations.

    • Monitor the restaurant’s performance in terms of sales, labor costs, and customer satisfaction.

    • Implement upselling techniques with staff to enhance the dining experience and increase sales.

    • Assist in managing the budget for the front-of-house department, helping control costs and maximizing profitability.

  5. Health & Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure that front-of-house staff adhere to health, safety, and sanitation standards.

    • Enforce proper food handling procedures and cleanliness practices in all guest-facing areas.

    • Ensure compliance with local regulations, including liquor licensing and health codes.

  6. Communication & Collaboration:

    • Maintain clear communication between front-of-house and back-of-house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience.

    • Work closely with the restaurant manager and other departments to implement new initiatives, promotions, and improvements.

    • Coordinate with the marketing team for special events, promotions, or seasonal offerings.

  7. Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution:

    • Act quickly to resolve any issues related to service, guest complaints, or staff performance.

    • Work to prevent problems before they arise by maintaining a proactive and solution-oriented approach.

    • Handle emergency situations (e.g., customer injuries, staff issues, or unexpected incidents) in a calm and effective manner.
